Arenas Plaza Leisure and Shopping Centre

Bovis Lend Lease was assigned the Construction Management Services of the Leisure and Shopping Centre “Las Arenas” in Barcelona.
The Development is the property of Varitelia, society constituted by Metrovacesa, although until the end of 2008 was owned by Sacresa.
The Project consists of a big leisure centre, retail units, cinemas, catering premises, parking lots, etc.
The Project involves the refurbishment of the old Bullring Las Arenas, regarding the conservation of the old mudejar façade as an important issue from the beginning.
The cladding of the building has been built as an absolutely independent element from the structural point of view, giving the whole a deep floating sense, at 27 mt. distance over grade.
The façade of the area of surrounding restaurants overlooks the pompous and spectacular central atrium, vaulted.
During the demolitions phase, all the sections annexed to the central cylinder were eliminated, being the original façade of the ring, the only original element remnant.
As a last outstanding aspect, it should be mentioned the connection of the pedestrian Subways at the Plaza de España, resulting in the introduction of the underground station inside the building.

Location: Plot between streets Diputación, Llançà, Tarragona y Gran Vía de Les Corts Catalanes, Barcelona, España.
