Bovis Lend Lease has been awarded the Project Management of the new Hotel Mandarin Oriental, located in Paseo de Gràcia, in the magnificent headquarters of the old Stock Exchange in Barcelona.
The luxurious hotel will be become the fifth Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Europe since the opening of the hotel in Prague in October 2006, of which was another project managed by Bovis Lend Lease as well as the Hotel Mandarin in New York.
The hotel comprises 98 luxurious guest rooms, suites and a Presidential Suite, together with a 1,540m² Spa, two restaurants, one of which is has been awarded a Michelin star, as well as a bar and lobby area.
The project aims to transform the building into the most emblematic hotel in Catalonia and one of the most important in Spain and for the reason the designers haven’t be skimping on materials.
Besides the challenge in terms of being the flagship project, the location in the heart of the city brought many logistical problems, access, deliveries, etc.
Prior to the incorporation of Bovis Lend Lease into the project, there had been two show rooms that have not been approved by all parties leading to the interior designer teams to make further changes.
The Hotel was inaugurated on 26th November of 2009, being completed on schedule.
The main contractors for the construction works are Dragados (civil works, MEP works, and part of the finishing works) Otis (elevators), B&B (another part of the finishing works), Bienvenido Gil (ITT installations) and Otis (vertical transport).
