Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza Extension works


The Extension Project of the Thyssen-Bornesmiza Museum consisted of increasing its surface up to 8.430 m2, in order to house the Carmen Thyssen-Bornesmiza painting collection. The extension works included the refurbishment and fit out of the buildings placed in the street Marques de Cubas 10 y 21 and the connection to the current Museum in the Vistahermosa Palace. The refurbishment works involved changes in the nucleus, visitor circulation areas and the public areas not intended for the exhibition of works.
To the achitectural importance of the Project, it must be added the complexity of performance and logistics of woks, because while the works were on progress the Museum had to be fully operational.
As for the organizational aspects of the securing of works, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Foundation has to follow the stipulations included in the Public Administration Contracting Law. In this sense, it must be emphasized the Contracting Procedure proposed, because will allow secure the works throughout the Construction Management System, applying those speculations.
The services provided by Bovis Lend Lease included a phase of preliminary research and the development of the Requirements Programme that was the base to carry out an architectural contest, that was also managed by Bovis Lend Lease, in order to choose the definitive proposal that would be carried out subsequently.
